Will Sara Like This?: Whip It!
A misfit girl named Bliss (Ellen Page) is constantly being pressured to enter beauty pageants by her mother, so she joins a roller derby league instead.
Whip It! is an upcoming comedy film directed by Drew Barrymore and written by Shauna Cross, based on Cross’ novel Derby Girl. The film will be Barrymore’s directorial debut.
The movie will star Drew Barrymore, Ellen Page, Juliette Lewis, Marcia Gay Harden, Kristen Wiig, Zoe Bell, Jimmy Fallon and Eve.

So who is Sara? And why does it matter if she likes this movie? Well, Sara is a friend of my wife and I and she actually is a Roller Derby girl. So I think her opinion on this movie will be extremely valid. Maybe I can get her to write a review of this when it comes out. Let us know how much gets exaggerated for Hollywood. I’ll let you know what she says.
FYI: Sara skates for the Dutchland Derby Rollers in Lancaster, PA.
The Dutchland Derby Rollers (DDR) are committed to athleticism and sportswomanship, raising awareness about and furthering the sport of roller derby. The DDR continue developing the strength of their league with competitive interleague bouting as members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. The DDR believe all people are important and should be treated with equality and respect. Embodying the values of friendship, empowerment, dedication, discipline and a “for the skater, by the skater” philosophy, they demonstrate positive roles for women and act as contributing members of their local community, giving back through outreach, volunteerism and fundraising.
Sara, who goes by the name of Treasure Chest while on skates, was the 2009 Fan Fave voted Best Blocker and Hardest Hitter. She was also voted by the league as the Most Feared Check. Congratulations to her. Awesome!

hey greggles, i will definitely have a review once this movie comes out! We, as members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, hope that it help bring more recognition to our sport. I am intrigued to see how Drew Barrymore and the other actors portray skaters and see what accuracy is brought to the big screen. I know that many Texas derby girls were consulted and i think some may have ended up in the film, so we’ll see what happens in this film. It is definitely exciting and I personally have much anticipation building! Sidenote- I love Zoe Bell so hopefully she has a good role in this film.
I just don’t see Juno as a derby girl. I look forward to your review and will gladly post it.
